Ibanez 8/9&10 series.
These are just great boxes, switches and
jacks can cause problems but they have great tone and are analog through and through.
The MS10 metal screamer deserves special
mention as does the blue SM-9, they are the tube screamer
circuit with lots of extra drive and eq, the MS10 has four
JRC4558 op amp chips!! just don’t tell anyone or the prices
will go through the roof!
The OD855 is a 1979 original and sounds
wonderful, the TS-9 has been written about so much that I
shan’t comment further!
It did benefit from a serious “Lister” mod!
A note about the JRC4558 chip.
This is just a general
use op-amp, which has gained “god like” status since SRV
played through the Ibanez TS-9, there are ‘Japan Radio
Company” (JRC) versions and also “Texas Instruments” (TI)
versions still available from Steve at
www.smallbearelec.com.
You can substitute almost any “dual” op amp
for these including TL072, RC4559 and NE5532 which will give
you better and lower noise results, don’t believe the hype
about the JRC4558, they are not that special.
